With our suite of in-house plugins and quests, custom handmade maps and player-run economy, MassiveCraft’s factions survival experience is far from vanilla. In the interests of player experience, gameplay balance or plugin incompatibility, over the years a number of enchantments and items have altered functionality or are restricted or disabled entirely across all of our survival worlds.

This player guide aims to be used as a reference for what has been changed, in relation to items and enchantments, on the live server right now. If you’re a new player, read this to get up-to-date information as you venture out and build yourself up! If you’re more experienced, use this as a refresher or a helpful guide to send to your factionmates and allies to make sure they’re also in the know!

Disabled Items

Item Reason
Shulker Boxes Shulker mobs, shulker shells and shulker boxes are completely disabled throughout our survival worlds and are a prohibited item, with players being subject to heavy investigation if they are found to possess a shulker box or shell. Shulker boxes used to be used for decoration in old roleplay worlds, but their use has now been prohibited.

Shulkers significantly change the way that item storage is managed in the late stages of the game. Combined with /bp (backpack), you could carry 27 double chests of items stored in your undroppable backpack slots. The functionality of shulkers causes large balance changes in many aspects of survival and opens up many potential vectors of abuse.

Conduits Conduits are currently uncraftable due to the ‘Heart of the Sea’ not being able to be obtained throughout our survival worlds.

There were initial doubts on whether Conduits would add value to the survival experience on MassiveCraft and not act as a vector of abuse or be an unbalanced aspect of factions survival following the 1.13 update. This may change at a later date and conduits may eventually be obtainable.

Totems of Undying Totems of Undying are not obtainable through pillager raids. Although the villager raiding mechanic exists on MassiveCraft and their inherent functionality is not disabled, it is not possible to legitimately obtain them through standard play. Pillagers will drop crossbows, emeralds etc. but Totems of Undying have been removed from the drop table.

Totems of Undying increase the effective HP of players by preventing them from death and giving them hearts of absorption after the fact. This would significantly change a number of scenarios in survival where the player would die, including in PVP, where both players would be much harder to kill than at this current point.

Bundle Bundles are an experimental feature to Minecraft, added back in 1.17. They are currently uncraftable but when spawned, they act as a compressed storage in allowing multiple items to be stored in a single inventory slot.

Bundles would have a significant impact on the way item storage is managed in the late stages of the game, although they are objectively less flexible than shulker boxes. Nevertheless, their distribution throughout survival would cause inevitable balance issues and interfere with many aspects of survival.

Altered Items and Restricted Functionality

Item Reason
End Crystals End Crystals can still be crafted through their vanilla recipe and can be stored in chests and displayed in item frames. However, the ability to place End Crystals has been disabled.

End Crystals do large amounts of explosive damage when broken, dealing the same amount as a charged creeper (explosion strength 6), translating to 10.4 damage per End Crystal broken. This would be undesirable for PVP on MassiveCraft and cause huge balance issues. Therefore, End Crystals are still obtainable, but their ability to be placed has been disabled.

Respawn Anchor Respawn Anchors can still be crafted through their vanilla recipe and displayed in item frames. However, this ability to be placed has been disabled.

Respawn Anchors, similar to End Crystals, do large amounts of explosion damage when overloaded with glowstone. The respawn mechanic of the item also interferes with the way that beds and /tp home are managed on MassiveCraft. The entire design of the item conflicts with aspects that are desirable on MassiveCraft, and therefore the item is still craftable, but placement is restricted.

Golden Apples and Enchanted Golden Apples Golden Apples and Enchanted Golden Apples do not give the player any lasting potion effect when eaten. Golden Apples are still craftable, and Enchanted Golden Apples still exist on the server as they were crafted prior to the recipe removal. However, players who eat either apple will receive no positive effects.

Golden Apples and Enchanted Golden Apples significantly alter the flow and balance of PVP scenarios by granting absorption, regeneration, resistance and fire resistance in a stackable fashion, available on-demand throughout a fight. This is undesirable for PVP on MassiveCraft and therefore the functionality of these items is restricted.

Beacons The vanilla beacon recipe does not work on MassiveCraft as spawning the Wither has been disabled. Beacons are currently obtainable through the crate key system, and still retain their full functionality when placed. However, other methods of obtaining beacons are currently under review and the custom recipe was removed.

Reasoning: Beacons are powerful, endgame tools used to permanently apply potion effects to players in a radius around the beacon. Although beacons are plentiful on MassiveCraft, the custom recipe was removed earlier this year to review how beacons could be obtained as rewards. This process is still ongoing at this point in time. Beacons can still be obtained, but are no longer craftable through our custom system.

Enchantments

Enchantment Reason
Riptide Because of the balance issues when combining riptide, ender pearls and elytra with combat tag, combined with a separate vector of abuse with one of our plugins, Riptide was disabled.
Quick Charge Quick Charge was disabled to balance concerns in PVP when combined with Harming II tipped arrows. Quick Charge may return in an altered state at a later point, but as it stands the enchantment is disabled and will be removed from any crossbow it is enchanted on.
Sweeping Edge Undesirable for MassiveCraft’s PVP balance.
Thorns Undesirable for MassiveCraft’s PVP balance. Still works for PVE mobs and other damage sources.
Curse of Binding Initially obtainable when MassiveVillagers was released, Curse of Binding was disabled and removed from the trading table due to vectors of abuse and the enchantment generally not being desirable in survival play.
Curse of Vanishing Initially obtainable when MassiveVillagers was released, Curse of Vanishing was disabled and removed from the trading table due to the ability of players to add this curse to their weapons as insurance that enemy players would not get their weapon if they died.
Channeling Disabled due to functional undesirability from Game Staff.

Villager Trading

Minecraft’s vanilla trading is still accessible on MassiveCraft with some modifications.

Regal prices (regal’s are our server’s currency) have been assigned to trades. Regal prices are randomized within a specified range like emeralds and are not influenced by vanilla discount mechanics.

Mending, Frost Walker, Curse of Binding, Riptide, Knockback, Quick Charge, Sweeping Edge, and Curse of Vanishing are not available through villager trading.
