After half a year of work sharding is finally here. The first version is now running live on MassiveCraft for all players to test out.

Sharding is when you run multiple minecraft servers as if they were one. The world maps are spread out across the different servers. This way we achieve less lag, higher TPS and a higher maximum players online limit. Even though there are many servers it feels just as one big server since inventory items, factions, chat messages etc are synchronized among the servers.

Currently we are just running two servers to test the system out. The servers are called “s3” and “s4”. All medieval fantasy worlds except Regalia is located on s4. The other worlds are on s3. Try the following commands:

  • /tps,lag
  • /list medieval
  • /list minigame

As soon as we are satisfied that the system is stable enough we will expand to use 5 servers instead of 2. This will result in even higher TPS and maximum player slots.

Why doesn’t the map show faction claims any more? Will this be fixed?

    • Cayorion 2013-05-28 at 17:45

      Yeah it will.

Will there be a /dynmap hide for factions?

    • Joshy54100 2013-05-28 at 23:42

Because DynMap isn’t an in-house plugin, it doesn’t support the newest version of Factions just yet, so it may take awhile. I’m sure Cayorion is working with whoever is currently developing it now to make it compatible

    Yay!
Finally have the sharding done! Now I am able to see all servers/worlds and get to places easier!

Hello, it’s me again, hehe. :P

I’ve noticed that almost every time I disconnect from the server, I end up back at the universal spawn point when I rejoin, and when I try to teleport to my home bed, it says that ‘Server s4 is full with x/150 amount of players’. Is this a new feature of sharding, or is there any way perhaps that I could fix this? Thanks. :)

    • Cayorion 2013-05-30 at 05:12

It’s a sharding feature. If server s4 is full you can’t log on there unless you are premium. In the future s4 will be split up in to more servers, increasing the chance that there is room available.

But what if a non_prem is in his mine and didnt set a home or anything else? He gets just tped to the u_spawn? Isnt that a bit unfair?

A note: You can join if it says 180/170. If there’s room in the world you are currently in anyway.

    • Cayorion 2013-05-30 at 05:13

Almost right. There is always room in Regalia and the multiverse hub. If you are in Ithania though and you log on and that server is full you will be sent to the multiverse hub.
